5 Mindsets of Winning

In life, there are winners and losers. That is a simple fact. Society today tries to convince us otherwise. The mentality that there are no winners and losers leads to entitlement. Leaders understand that there are winners and losers and they find a way for their team to win.

There are 5 mindsets necessary for winners:

Losing is Unacceptable – Do you accept defeat? Do you feel that it’s ok to lose? Leaders understand that winning is crucial. Losing affects teams. Morale decreases. Productivity decreases. Profitability decreases. There are some things in life that you can’t control. Even though losing is a part of life, it should always still be unacceptable. What needs to be done to attain victory? Even if you lose a battle, what are you doing to win the war?

Passion is Unquenchable – Passion, according to the dictionary, is a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something. My passion is adding value to people who want to add value to people. There are times when our passion decreases because of challenges, but it never disappears. Leaders understand that passion can come not only in what you do, but also in how you do it. Are you striving for excellence? What are your passions?

Quitting is Unthinkable – I heard someone say “rehab is for quitters.” Funny and true, but this isn’t what I’m talking about here. Have you ever known someone who tried something and gave up before they really had a chance to succeed? I have seen many of these people throughout my life. The frustrating part is often people quit just before success happens. Everything has a time and place, but quitting isn’t one of them. Failures are part of life. You will learn more from failures than you ever will from successes, but by quitting, you are giving up on that learning opportunity. The largest recorded gold strike in US history was made by a man who purchased a piece of land from another man who gave up. He only had to dig 3 feet!

Commitment is Unquestionable – Are you dedicated? But, are you REALLY dedicated? I have found many times over the years people say that they are committed to something, but when tough times come, commitment wavers. Influence requires commitment. Until you are fully committed to your cause, profession or people, you can never find victory.  Commitment fosters trust, camaraderie and vision.

Victory is Inevitable – Napoleon Bonaparte said, “victory belongs to the most persevering.” When you adopt the first 4 mindsets, the only remaining outcome is inevitable victory. Expect it. Plan for it.

Change your mindset, change your life.
